Voucher booklet initiative: information for restaurants Print E-mail

  • How does it work?
Beginning in early 2009, as part of CAI's 2008-09 fundraising through the Meals that Matter campaign, we will be selling voucher books with promotions from restaurants and cafés to the expatriate community (e.g., multi-national companies, embassies, chambers of commerce, etc.). Interested restaurants and cafés are encouraged to contact us as soon as possible to ensure a place in the voucher booklet.
  • How is this different from other promotions or benefits programs?
Unlike other promotions or benefits programs, CAI's Meals that Matter voucher booklet initiative benefits underprivileged children. By participating, your restaurant is not only getting widespread promotion but you are also helping children in need.

  • Where does the money go?
CAI is committed to a policy of transparency so that the public knows exactly where their donations are going. There are an estimated 20 million migrant children and 58 million left-behind children in China. While subject to different social challenges, both groups of children are susceptible to low self-esteem, lack of focus and purpose, and demonstrate lower scholastic achievement and increased delinquency. They are also at greatest risk of human trafficking. Through value-based arts and sports training we aim to empower these children to reach their greatest potential.
Donations from the campaign will go towards:
  • Purchasing sports equipment and art supplies for our programs in schools for migrant children
  • Funding our rural teacher-training programs
  • Supporting the establishment of the Promise School for gifted, rural students
  • Covering program costs such as print materials and web support
  • Will it cost the restaurant anything?
No. Apart from the discount that you choose to offer (which will bring in more customers), there is no cost to the restaurant for participating.
  • Will it be difficult for staff to handle?
Not at all. Staff need only to accept the vouchers from customers and deduct the discount, as they would with any other promotion.
  • What are the benefits to the restaurant?
Your participation in this campaign will reflect your charitable efforts in the local Beijing community which foreign patrons are particularly interested in.  For example, a market survey done by Edelman PR firm found that 76% of consumers say they would buy from a brand that make donations to a good cause.  Similarly, 68% of consumers say, during a recession, they would remain loyal to a brand that supports a good cause.

We will also promote the restaurant on our website, in our newsletters and through media coverage, such as newspapers and magazines. The restaurant will also receive a sticker to display on their window or noticeboard to show customers that you are supporting this cause.

  • How can your restaurant get involved?
To participate in our Meals that Matter voucher booklet initiative, just send us the promotion(s) you wish to provide.  We recommend that you use this opportunity to provide promotions that attract customers to visit and use the coupon.  From our research, a free drink often does not make a customer go out of their way to visit a restaurant.  However, "buy an entrée, get a second one free or half-off" or "get 15% off your total bill" type of promotions work much better.   If there is a particular page design that the restaurant wishes to use, please send us that as well (in .jpg, .pdf, .ai formats).
