This is Bessie, also known as Xuemei, so great to share my feelings about CAI here.  Since it is a long long story, I am writing it in Chinese just make it easier for me to express myself exactly in my own language.

    2006年的6月的一天，晚自习归来的路上习惯性的看了下中北楼后的宣传栏。一张很普通的A4纸小海报吸引了我的眼球，仔细看下去，是一个名为CAI-儿童才艺行动的组织在招募暑期支教老师，针对的学生群体是打工子弟。但人家招的是艺术课任课老师，我没有艺术背景，只会做简单的手工，但我却决定要投个简历试试看，也许就是“打工子弟”四个字吸引了我。回到宿舍便整理了一份简单的resume发到了CAI的邮箱中。

  清楚的记得那一天是7月7日，我第一次去Judy的住处，就是CAI当时的临时办公室，见到了Judy，Sam，还有沈娜姐。他们是CAI最早的一批志愿者，Sam是美籍韩国人，沈娜姐在一家NGO工作，在简单聊天过后我们就开始讨论CAI的工作。也是在当时我才了解到CAI是刚创建不久的非盈利机构，正在筹划的暑期夏令营是CAI的第一个项目，我因加入到这样一个刚刚起步的机构而兴奋，觉得自己可以有所作为。同时我也认识到CAI的人员资源确实很少，难怪Judy在电话中那样恳切希望我能过来帮忙。当晚我就被分配了任务：

1.       负责与现有志愿者联络，确认能参加暑期夏令营的人数，根据他们的所长安排相应的工作。

2.       与确定的任课老师和助教沟通授课内容，收集大家的意见。

3.       安排与任课老师的group meeting。

   每周我们在Judy家聚一次。聚会的目的有四：

1.       总结上周的工作情况，分享自己的工作进展，了解项目的进展程度；

2.       提出每个人面临的困难和希望得到的帮助。

3.       对下一步工作做出计划和分工。

4.       一起吃个简单的工作餐，联络感情。

PS:那个台湾卤肉饭是我至今为止吃过的最好吃的卤肉饭啊。

   我们的队伍越来越壮大，在后面的几次聚会中我认识了秋萍，崔静和宇婷。还有Toru，Toru也是CAI最早的一个志愿者 ，只是前面几次我都没有碰到他，直到开老师们的group meeting时才见到。这个拥有1/4满族血统，1/4汉人血统，1/2日本血统的美国人是个非常有才气和能力的帅哥。记得第一次见到他时他会因为自己的中文发音不准而害羞，哈哈~~

   夏令营的日期越来越逼近，我们的准备工作也在有条不紊的进行。沈娜姐丰富的NGO工作经验和美术背景发挥了重要作用，每次遇到问题只要她在都会变得明朗化，还有秋萍和崔静，作为北京的孩子利用他们的资源为我们争取到了更多的机会和物美价廉的教学工具。Judy，Toru和Elena则通过自己的朋友圈联系了很多外国志愿者，而我则做着琐碎却不可少的后勤工作。也许从CAI的活动就已注定我以后将做后勤，而且可以让人满意，哈哈。7月底，Judy回美国参加律师宣誓仪式，我想她或多或少会有些不放心吧，其实我的心里也是忐忑不安，生怕她不在的日子会出现什么意想不到的事情。

     Judy不在的一周里Toru担起了重任，在他的领导下我们做着最后的准备：去行知和汇蕾学校落实夏令营的活动安排，如：

1.       签订活动协议；

2.       了解学生们的基本情况；

3.       安排教室，了解学校的教学硬件，列出需要我们自己准备的设施。

4.       落实夏令营期间的午饭和饮用水问题。

   很多问题之前就跟学校落实过，这次过去主要是做再确认，希望万无一失。还有去U-Studio，与那边的负责人落实夏令营期间学生与日本画家互动的活动安排。还有就是繁琐和浩大的教学材料大采购活动。

   当一切准备就绪时Judy也回来了，但她在美国开车时受了伤，回来时竟拄着拐杖，一直到夏令营的活动结束，伤口还没有完全愈合，当时真的是看在眼里，疼在心里，是怎样的毅力支撑着这个看似柔弱的女子如此坚强！

Having added two new desks to the CAI office on Tuesday, we spent some time today putting up various pictures that were taken by children of the Xingzhi and Huilei schools for migrant children during photography courses organised by CAI in 2006 / 2007. 

These pictures were also used for an exhibition at the at Zhongguancun Plaza Shopping Mall (中关村购物中心) in Beijing on 20 December 2008 and can be seen close up if you click here.

Hi this is Elise

Today is my second day back in the office here in Beijing. I worked as a volunteer for CAI in October and November of last year, but spent December back home in Europe. Yesterday I had a quiet start as only my colleague Lu Ling was around. This morning however there are 6 of us!

That is one of the nice things about working at a charity like CAI, we have a regular inflow of new volunteers, some who stay longer, some only for a short period. When I first started working at CAI in October of 2008, there was only Judy, the founder of CAI and Lu Ling, who was an intern at the time. Since then Lu ling has become permanent and is now Programme Officer, and Xian has joined as Operations Officer on a permanent basis too. With me being back for a few months, and two new volunteers joining today, we spent the first few hours of the morning putting together two extra desks from IKEA. Our donated little office is just big enough to house all of us, a storage cabinet and a small meeting room.

Being the 6^th of January and with a mix of different cultures and backgrounds in our team (and  Comptoirs de France around the corner), I brought in a “Galette de Roi” to share. Lu Ling found the ‘coin’ and has thus been crowned “Queen for the Day”. Pictures of the new office set up and our Queen will follow later.
