Thoughts
on joining CAI
On the 2nd of February 2009, I started my
internship at CAI. When the Hutong School suggested that I could do my
internship there, I had never even heard of CAI, which is a pity because now I
have learnt that it definitely is a very interesting company that deserves to
be known throughout the world. Not only are there many enthusiastic volunteers,
but the company also strives for making the lives of rural- and migrants’
children better in order to improve Chinese society.
When I came to the office on Monday, everyone was so nice
that I felt at home immediately. Since then, the days have been flying by.
Every day that you are here, you learn more about the company; why it exists in
the first place, what sort of problems the rural and left-behind children have
to face and what initiatives CAI takes to improve these children’s situation.
The enthusiasm and persistence of all the volunteers is so
admirable. Everyone here is encouraged by the fact that what they do really
makes a difference in these children’s lives. The volunteers even succeed in
passing the excitement on to everyone who walks through the door. On top of
this, they manage to stimulate and excite newcomers to do the best they can to
make a difference.
It is really amazing to work here and get the chance to
learn so much while having a great time. Here at the office, you never get
bored. There are so many things that can happen in a day; a new volunteer walks
in, an upcoming event needs to be planned, a donation is brought in, etc.
All these unexpected events compel you to be creative with
the limited resources and time that you have.
In short, CAI gives everyone the opportunity to help
people in a challenging, interesting and at the same time fun environment. What
can anyone want more? Read 0 Comments... >> |
